Hillary Stannard, or Miss Chute as we knew her,
taught us history and was an inspiring and delightful person, writes Sue
Young. Good fun but kind and fair with her discipline. I remember
reading The Kontiki Expedition in class with reference to travelling
in ancient times and we so enjoyed it that we made her a model of the
Kontiki raft with balsa wood. She reported that she kept it for many years!
Having read her report of her time at Chagford I am amazed and slightly
gratified to know that she was so naughty! She has been a great source of
information for any SMS research required and it was always a joy to see her
at the reunions. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her and we send
our sympathy to her family. We are sorry to have to tell you of the death of Miss June Ellis recently. She was a teacher at St Monica's from 1953-1963 and many Old Girls will remember her, particularly those in Anderson House where she was Housemistress. Her funeral celebration will be on Wednesday, November 20th at St Mary's, Bloxham (OX15 4PY) at 1.30pm following a committal at Banbury Crematorium (Southam Road, OX16 1ST) at 12.00 noon.
Details are with Humphris Funerals (Tel no 01295265424). If anyone would like to send donations, they will give information.
Sue Young would be most grateful if you could let her know if you intend to attend either or both ceremonies so she can let others know. Please contact Sue through the webmaster.
